Creating this thread so all the reports can be in one place...
Dec 21st (KW Glenwoods) - maybe 8 to 10 portables were out today. I would say no more than 100 yards out. Not sure what the ice thickness is, but if anyone was out there from the board they can tell us.
Peter - Can you pin this post so it's always at the top?

Just got back from the bottom of Glenwoods. Second permanent hut was put out today. Again, a few portables and 2 of them were way out there! That was open water a few days ago. Can't imagine it would be more than an inch or two...

Went again and took a video...
Again, this is at the bottom of the bay and we had ice here before the freeze over the past couple of days. I wanted to go out so bad, but not taking a chance with the 4 wheeler. I'll wait till I see more ice huts out. A few more cold nights and a few more inches of ice before I venture out.

So after seeing two huts out, snowmobiles and ATV's over the weekend, I decided to venture out today. What wet stuff was on the ice yesterday has frozen over. Between the two huts, there is about 8 inches of ice. NOT Black ice so it would not hold much weight! Maybe 50 yards straight out of there went down to 4 inches. Turned back quickly and set up between the two huts. Fished for about 1/2 hour and got 2 dinks. Went out mostly to try out the new toys photos.app.goo.gl/hXLkPoYLKQgE7CVK6This was going out from Glenwoods...

Could you plz explain to us how you very carefully spud your way out during these extremely early ice conditions while driving an ATV.

Great question! One of the huts out there is my next door neighbor's friend. Was talking to him today and he said there were 8's under the hut. So till there, knew it was safe. Went a little further where an ATV was yesterday. That's where I checked and found the 4 inches. There were people fishing beyond that, but was not even going to stay on four with the four-wheeler.
I can not stress enough that this is only at the end of Glenwoods!!!

Seen a pop-up out today near the permanent hut out of Glenwoods Road. It was windy today and it was a good time to have some shelter. Haven't been on the ice since my last outing so not sure if it has deteriorated with this milder temperatures. I would assume that it has, but no measurements to say by how much. Maybe in a day or two I'll be on the lake to provide more of an ice report.

I agree Peter! The lake access from Glenwoods Road is deteriorating quickly due to the water run off. The good part is that all the snow is gone from the lake and any ice made throughout the nights will be solid stuff.
No idea on how thick the ice is now and I'm not venturing out to find out. Will wait till colder nights so it gets nice and thick.
My advice for now is to stay off it... The old ice MIGHT hold you, but you will quickly be on some thin ice storm what was recently made.

Hey Chachi, is it fair to say you were out yesterday? Can you share how far out were the 5-6 inches and where you hit the 3? I always reference the two permanent huts that are out there as a marking point... That's the oldest ice on the Glenwoods side.
Thanks for the report!
BTW, on my way out (around 5PM) to go visiting family, a couple of "walkers" were loading their truck. Hope they had a great day! Would love to hear from them if they are on this forum.

NICE!!! It looks like you came all the way to Glenwoods Road? I think I recognize one of the huts out there... Just to add, although the bay has frozen over, I wouldn't call it safe yet. The sled rides over thin ice due to the speed, but not sure if others will take this as a sign to bring their toys out. ATV's are much heavier per pound distribution on the four wheels and much slower. Stopping on 2-3 inches of ice is not the same as riding a sled at high speeds. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Great day on the bay today! A little windy but nothing 2 ice anchors could not handle. Fished in 7 feet of water and the ice was 9 inches. Only ventured out to the huts by the end of Glenwoods Road, so no idea what the ice is beyond that. Managed to catch a Pike and missed another that came by the hole. Perch were very scarce though. Didn't mark or see any schools. The odd one here and there... photos.app.goo.gl/ivjExNvZjcEDwomh8photos.app.goo.gl/wM21bEDLA5r2eL3V8XF

So, while Peter is nursing himself to a better health (wishing for a quick recovery Peter), I'm sure many on this board have been out fishing from Gilford. Last I've seen was 3.5 inches of ice out of Gilford. It would be nice if everyone could post their findings of ice thickness while Peter gets well...
