I am going to use #2 hooks. They are actual carp hooks. $6 for a 10 pack.

Cool to see some people trying it.
Was thinking of using circle hooks, but afraid they wouldn't catch.
I use circle hooks on tip ups in winter for whitefish, and they have similar mouths so I ought to give it a shot.

Hey Casacrow check out a good tackle store. they will have a dedicated section of carp gear, The #2 hooks I got are not true circle hooks but more like a circle than a J hook.

So what kind of weight were you using? I was thinking a 3 way swivel would work best. ... I have no idea what I'm doing lol Anyone want to carping together?

In my limited experience, I really wish I used a sliding weight. Broke off many fish and weights. Definitely a slider next time.

I'm reading anywhere up to 4oz which seems crazy was gonna go 1/2oz maybe... Man those Europeans are crazy for carp, more complicated than bass fishing!

When the carp picks up the hair rig the line will pull through the weight the fish does not feel the it.

I wouldn't use a sliding weight. The whole purpose of the hair rig is for the fish not to feel the hook being sucked in. Once sucked even when it tries to spit it out the barb will do its job and will automatically hook the lip of the fish. 3 way swivel works best with the weight attached straight to the swivel. Once fish is hooked it will carry the weight with it such minimizing weight tangles.

All broke off or got snagged. Gunna try no weight short line hair rigs, and sliding weights(maybe a couple ounces with a swivel 20" up the line to assist in hook set on the run) Been gone for a bit, but spent some time chilling with carp tonight. No rod. Just observing. Turns out they are cool with light as long as it isn't moving. But if they even hear your knee crack they are gone.

Let's change things up. Mirror carp, at night, and on a fly rod.

We chummed with boiled field corn and I landed the first 1, 30 minutes later. I was 30 inches and 20 pounds. The last couple have got away.

Mrs. Casacrow just finished a 39 minute battle with a 20+ lbs carp. Everyone got involved to keep the big fish away from the boats and dock. Was a fun night with Chugbug coming out. He had a beast on the line as well but lost it in the weeds to a bent hook.

Oh and Chugbug comes in at the buzzer and lands his first ever Simcoe carp. Not a bad size at all to get the ball Rollin'

The pics of Mrs Casacrow's carp don't do it any justice. It was really big.

Not as big as the one that got away, but still a decent size for your first! Size 6 Owner circle hooks got it done tonight. We missed a few hook sets on alarms. Not sure if fish bumping the lines, or poor hook sets. Funny how Mrs. Casacrow had a carp tattoo on her wrist, well in advance of fishing for this tough and elusive species.

We chummed at noon yesterday and I caught the 30 "er only a half hour later. They shut down for a while but turned around 4:40 and we had 7 more on and landed 5 of them in 90 minutes. I am going to chum again now and we will see how thing go today.

Yesterday we chummed at noon again and by 7:00 p.m. we hooked 11 and landed 8 of them, the biggest was 32" and 24" girth. Both days they turned on huge at about 5:00 p.m. including a double header. We had a slow start today and just going to chum now. I will give you an update later today or tomorrow.
