I was feeling a lil low now that bowfishing season has come to an end for carp. I thought that I might as well try catching them with a rod. It went well.

Nice collection of carp u got there. What were u using for bait? I found canned corn to work decent There's a small river loaded with them not far from my house, want to get my bro hooked into one. I caught a big one last year but since it's such a small area once u hook one they all get spooked n don't bite til later in the day

It was a fun night. I didn't land all those fish myself. A couple neighborhood kids were around, so I'd hand the rods off once hook was set. They had to go to bed and weren't still up for the picture.
It allowed me to run 2xrods. Used my trolling downrigger rods. They worked very well.
Lost about 10 fish too. Some shook the hook, some lost at the net, most lost from a snapped line. There were a couple monsters that we didn't get in.
Corn on a hair rig was the ticket.

I just laughed I disagree off after reading this post. It casually ends with "it went well" then you scroll down to a pic of a mess of carp.
Casacrow, you are the man! Way to fish!

I dunno the best structure. I'm new at it. This was in shallow silty with minimal vegetation. Wide open water of cooks.

LOL minimal vegetation...in cooks bay in the summer? wow didnt realize it was on the bay, did the bite slow down into the night at all? I wouldnt mind giving it a shot and if i can avoid this insane heat that a bonus! Did you tie the hair rigs yourself?

Started the night with a few purchased pre tied hair rigs and proper weights. They got broken off quite early and I ran home a few times to make something up. Had a lot of break offs. Tough fish. Wish I landed the larger ones. Didn't really slow down. The biggest one was caught at the time of the photo, I got tired and went home. Approx 03:00.

Did you get the hair rigs somewhere local, wondering who would carry them?

Thx for reminding me how much fun it is to catch carp casacrow. 10 Years ago people in my group at Rice Lake had the equipment and we were always successful. Well I was telling my son about our success who was to young to remember let alone fight one. After hearing about it from his older sister who fought a few he said he wanted to try it when we go there next week. I had never heard of a hair rig and found a simple fool proof method to tie 1 up. It cost about .80c to make 1 and I saw pre-made ones for $4 at my Tackle shop. The $4 ones had 25 lb. line and I made mine with heavy gauge circle hook and 50 lb. braid. Thx again for all the posts and I will let you know how we do.

What size circle hooks do you use? I'm gonna try to go out this evening and try my luck.
