Just wondering how everyone is doing for pike so far. I have been out a few times to my usual early season spots and they have only produced 1 fish. Over the past 5 years or so these spots have produced great numbers. I have been fishing in the depths of 3 - 7 feet which is where I usually find them in good numbers in the southern part of the bay this early in the season. Just wondering if the weather is playing a factor or if I have to shift my focus to deeper water.

With the warmer weather of this weekend, the pike should be in shallows sunning themselves in the warmer water. Teh bite will pick up dramatically now that the warmer weather is here

Lots of boats out yesterday in the south eastern part of cooks bay. I didn't notice any boats catching. We fished from 6:30 - 12:30, trying varying depths and tactics and only managed 2 pike. I'm still not finding them where they usually are this time of the year. Hopefully tomorrow is better when we try again.

Yea, it's been weird for pike this year... not too concerned, time to change tactics and try again.
Good luck

Tried again yesterday for pike in Cooks Bay. The weather conditions were perfect and there weren't as many boats on the water as Saturday. We tried once again to fish areas that have been productive quantity wise in the past, however the pike just seem to be else where. We fished from 6:30 to 12 and managed 1 nice pike and one hammer handle. It has definitely been a weird start to pike season in cooks bay. I do believe the numbers are still there, but perhaps they are just in other areas because of the unstable weather this spring. Lets hope the pike action picks up soon!

Like Peter says....give it time. I was marking water temps anywhere from high 50's to low 60's....it's gotta get a litte warmer than that to start the fury!!

I got skunked out there yesterday too for pike, but I'd be very happy if any of the bass I caught would stick around for another month. If you see a green inflatable with a trolling motor and a guy wearing a cowboy hat, that's me.

On Monday the water on Cooks was roughly around 63 degrees and close to 67 degrees in the shallows. With warm weather during the day and night forecasted for this week, lets hope that the pike fire up on the bay.

With those kind of temps I would imagine they will start and fire up any day Tight lines

I had the same success as last weekend -no pike but several nice OOS largemouth. When I switched to my ultralight, things got busier. I got my personal best pumpkinseed among the 20 or so I probably caught, along with perch, a couple of bluegills and a rock bass. I also hooked into a couple of largies on the UL but they broke me off with their head shaking and jumping.

Very nice but serously what's happening with the pike. Even the boats around me weren't catching it was like a hopeless situation out there lol

I didn't have a chance to get out on the bay this weekend (just my luck with the awesome weather. Did anyone have any improved luck for pike with the warmer weather and water conditions?

The pike in Cooks Bay suffered from the same fate as crappie. The white bucket fishermen from certain enthnic groups fished them out.
