Yes ice reports in general speaking is better than none. That not what's in question. As stated your efforts are great but one persons account on what is safe nd what is not safe is the question. You as one voice and your members are a small number to give such info on sending anyone on your command. Cooks Bay is not that small nor that big, ice may be okay at Gilford where your standing and somone went to Keswick side on cooks bay cuz he heard Peter said it was good to go on cooks bay. Just way so many variables to put on my shoulders. Hope for the best as always.

maybe if you were here longer than 20 posts you would know that's peter doesn't say the ice is safe. just shows how the ice is and does spud testing , a lot of people drive a long way to Gilford . we drive 1hr 20 min . Its nice to see videos that day before we go instead of driving all this way and have to turn around and go home. use the videos for what they are , take them however you want. watch them and use your own judgment

fishmaster1,
Are you kidding me? With all due respect... get bent. Peter provides a resource that we all value and we are certainly not under his command. He is one source, in a long list of resources, for each us us to independantly determine whether we will take on the personal liability for getting on the ice. That's what it is all about, personal liability and responsibility. You, yourself, are the negligent one for getting on the ice if it is not safe to do so. No one else. If you were driving your car with a cliff to your left and a road to your right and your GPS told you to turn left, it is your own negligence that drives you over the cliff not the GPS company's or anyone else's for that matter.
Peter, Thank you, and keep those reports coming!

I trust Peters opinions on the ice conditions every year and faithfully watch his reports and have since I got back into ice fishing. Sure no ice is safe....but with his repots you atleast have an idea. Plus imo when you watch how the ice forms every year for years you will get an understanding of it grows. idc what anyone says...Peter is my go to guy when it comes to hard water.

Take these reports for what they are : reports. What may be safe for Peter might not be safe for you. It all depends on each persons level of comfort on the ice. I do follow Peter's videos but still won't venture out before a good 8-10 inches. It is still good to know conditions from someone local that ventures out on a daily basis.

The man is running a business , giving everyone a heads up on ice conditions ,weather , new parking opportunities, numerous videos on fishing success, bait and tackle info and the list goes on. At the end of the day he is just the voice at the end of Gilford. Tons of people rely on Peter for his ice reports and appreciate his work and passion for the sport. The rest is up to you and what your comfort zone is . Some are out on 4" and some folks feel safe when they see all the rentals out. One thing I have to say is thank you again Peter for your ice reports. If it wasn't for you I would be wasting my gas and time on the 400 every weekend. I owe you a large beverage, thanks.

Hey Pete Nice to hear from you again, glad to see that things are going well with your health. Don't listen to some of these guys they don't know jack. Your are our news cast for Guilford and maybe the rest of Simcoe. I don't care what anyone says I listen to you rather than other sources. I know you know the lake pretty good and when it's safe ice for you to wonder out to do tests. I have trusted your ice thickens finds for many years now thou I do understand that you can be of an inch or two as water temperature and wind factor's can change freezing point of fresh water. But most of the time you are right on the money. You risk your safety for us fellow fishermen. Good job and keep it up for as long as you can. Cheers and all the best to you and your family. Stay safe my fellow friend.

In life, we usually make our own decisions based on reliable information, personal knowledge and gut instinct. I, like many, take Peter's posts as reliable information based on his first hand/on scene and often videoed ice conditions, and his years of experience in lower Cook's Bay. Ice thickness and QUALITY of the ice can very in short distances. We are all anxious to drop our lines, but shouldn't endanger first-responders like firemen and police for a chance at a feed of fish. Keep our daily updates coming, Peter, and let's hope it's not a repeat of the no safe ice winter of 2012.

Some people are niave, gullable and followers which usually ends in lawsuits and someone getting hurt. Can take this as me being a Azzhole or good advise your choice. Check and double check! I could never be able to handle it if someone lost there life on my watch... come on don't try and ruin it for everybody Peter's been doing an excellent job and has been doing it for years just be intelligent enough to take his information and go out and collect your own or maybe that's too hard for you .
