Hi All,
I've been looking into the regs and as usual have a few questions as they never seem to give all the info a newbie would need. I found the federal license and stamp you need to buy for $19.22, but also read this in the regs:
"You are required to possess a valid federal Migratory Game Bird Hunting Permit with a Canadian Wildlife Habitat Conservation Stamp to hunt migratory birds in Canada. This permit and stamp are valid in all provinces and territories. Most provinces and territories have additional licence requirements for hunting migratory birds and/or to carry firearms."
So, in Ontario do you only need this license and stamp or do you also need a small game license and outdoors card?
Also, I came across an OFAH article that seemed to insinuate that bow hunting for ducks and geese is legal. This was news to me as I thought only shotguns were allowed. Does anyone know for sure if bows can be used? The regs say nothing about weaponry, they don't even mention shotguns. I found a few videos of Canadians using bows for geese in fields but I believe this was in Saskatchewan, is it legal here in Ontario and if so is it also legal over water?
Speaking of water, can a legal hunter hunt waterfowl on any body of water from a boat or shore blind or are there only some that are legal (like Cook's Bay) and some that aren't?
Questions, questions.....why are the government regs so incomplete? It's like they're trying to discourage new hunters via a lack of info.

hey i'm new at this hunting thing too and it's almost like you need a law degree.......to hunt mig birds you need a valid hunting outdoors card a small game lic and the mgbhp and stamp. I know nothing about hunting them with a bow, honestly you want a shotgun and u need steel ammo.
for places to hunt u need to check the municipal laws for that area, distance from buildings and stuff, sunday gun hunting etc.
