Based on the article from yesterdays paper calling the area that I base my reports , a hot bed .
Let me tell you why this comment was made by the deputy Mayor . A little birdie told me certain undesirables had a meeting with the deputy , there objective was to have the town lock the gate at the end of Gilford Rd for the reasons thy laid out in support of there case . The main topic of conversation was me , these undesirables portrayed me to the deputy Mayor as a bad guy simply put , im the cause of all the problems with the waterfront property owners , im to blame or there pathetic life that thy involve me in , im portrayed by these people as violent and abusive . On the contrary , I have video to show how your treated when to get to Gilford from some people , there trouble makers , me im only a guy with a camera that shares with you what I see . Calling this area a hot bed with severe problems is kinda insulting to me personally . 10 years I have promoted fishing , I feel the deputy Mayor needs to apologize and get the facts right , the police are called by the undesirables , the altercations are created by the undesirables . The emails and phone calls made to the town manifest there spin that the deputy Mayor fell for .
Heres some video in support of the end user to Cooks Bay .

hi Peter, where is the article that quotes the Deputy Mayor?
I would like to read it and if insulting or not factual, I will send an email to the Deputy Mayor (and I urge others to do the same) refuting the basis of his comments.
please post the link.
The only article I read recently was about the turtle. Did I miss something in that article?

Thanks for the link. I read the article and it is not as bad as I thought it would be.
Maybe they could have used better words to describe the circumstances. Chaos- bad choice.
Of course expecting anything other than exaggeration from a politician to get their point across is just wishful thinking.
Having said that, what is to stop the town from towing illegally parked vehicles. Wasn't someone named Harry a parking enforcement officer that did a good job at keeping people honest? Why an issue all of a sudden. What is wrong with increased enforcement? And towing if it is a big issue. I am sure they can get a two truck company to park themselves there every day if the scene is as bad as they describe.
And 33 spots won't put a dent in the number of cars that visit in the winter.
now the article was two sided. Giving points on both sides. Saying the town promotes the launch and fishing/ tourism. So in all, maybe a few bad choice of words.
But I would send those videos to the mayors office so they can get the full story
But I wouldnt take it personal peter. That's my thought anyway.

Peter keep up the fight, this issue is all over, anywhere there is access to water. The municipalities and businesses want the tourism and will tell you they support it. The problem is there are a few that want it all for themselves and they are the squeaky wheels. By the way some of there concerns are Warranted, I've been coming to the area for years and seen both the good and bad. Garbage issues, parking and blocking access to resident property, excessive noise there are some who just have no respect. Access to the waterways is a privilege we do not want to lose.

Peter, you have a lot more fans than you do enemies. There are hundreds of fishermen and families that appreciate everything you've done over the years with this board and your services. Gilford ice became a second home to many anglers from many different areas. Your hard work always gets noticed.
I can't believe what they've turned that area into the past few seasons. From feeling welcomed, to now being confronted. I felt this negative energy last season when I would walk down Gilford rd until I hit the ice.
Maybe they should be upset with themselves. Simcoe is a goldmine and they aren't cashing in on the opportunity. Instead, they are bashing somebody who has passion for both his area and the sport. They should be ashamed of themselves for their behaviour.
This winter, things will change. I will not put up with the chirping some of us received last winter and I welcome any face to face meeting from a local who seems to have a situation with the guests. I will even bring my larger hut, brew coffee and maybe even fry up some perch. Lets sit down, fish, and discuss. No problems, just situations. For every situation, there is a solution.
Lets all continue to support this club, Peter, and beginner and intermediate anglers.

I agree with "Drop", and definitely commend you on your valiant efforts Peter!!! It's a shame there's only one of you. Hint here is, isn't this kinda stuff the " proposed" CBAA was supposed to fight for?..... As a "larger" voice!.... Anyhow, that's a different thread altogether. Too bad that didn't amount to much.
Keep on em! You've got an enormous backing behind you!

This nut thinks he owns the road and the launch...last I checked, it's public access.

Yes your right tow trucks can be used , so can the Police be used to ticket illegally parked cars , the reason there not used is simple , there is no need , most of you are respectful , you know were to park because the cbfb shows you , yes it might get busy in town but personally I like the atmosphere , you have to remember were in a recreational area that’s frequented by guests from all over . I think we should bend back words for you guys and extend our hospitality . Its very concerning what im reading about how some of you feel unwelcome when you visit Gilford . Let me say this , your perception is not a true reflection of the people of this town , I have many wonderful friendships , most all locals are warm and friendly but there’s always some bad apples in the bunch . Remember Dave and his 5 kids ? i just want to report hes doing great working full time , his kids well thy have trued out to be up standing young people , thanks in turn by how you guys have supported the family over the years . Thank you ...

I'm a regular hard and soft water fisherman and I often fish in the Gilford area. I have read all the posts and watched all the videos several times. Us fishermen have to realize that we are visitors, the homeowners are there all the time. A few things about the video;
1. the vehicle, which I assume belongs to the guys blowing up the raft, is parked directly under a large 'no parking' sign !
2. under the same large 'no parking' sign is a smaller sign that states 'no dogs allowed within fifty ft. of shore'. Yet there you are Peter, with your dog at the shoreline.
3. the fishermen ARE launching a boat. I don't know what else you would call it and at 8;16 on a Saturday morning, they are running a noisy compressor to blow up their raft. Some people like to sleep in on the weekend, even people who live around the area in question.
There are two sides to every story. If we can understand the homeowners side, then maybe we should be a little more considerate and this kind of stuff won't happen. Arguing with an old man and lady that you call nutbars doesn't reflect well, does it ?

Thank you for your post , I said this on many occasions , if it doesn’t affect you directly , mind your own business . These guys were minding there own business , I was walking down to the water to do my report but you are right I was there with my dog .
Its after 8am , im sure if someone had there lawnmower going that would be ok .
This video will confirm that’s its not the actively but were you do your activity .
What is this gentleman guilty of ? sonofaperch ? respectfully with your logic hes fishing to close to some ones dock , we have a difference of option as i say hes not guilty of anything .

Of course there are crazy homeowners and that guy is not guilty of anything. As I said, there are two sides. Maybe the person who yelled at that fisherman had his boat broke into recently, maybe he has to put people off his property on a regular basis and is sick of it, maybe he's tired of pulling fish hooks out his dock, I don't know. I'm not picking sides. I'm just stating how things can be construed when we don't have the whole story.

Can't help but to understand what you are saying sonofaperch.
My house is a couple hundred feet from public access.
I also have access to a private beach.
Luckily we are not swamped with public parking and using access in the winter. I'm sure if people started blocking my driveway and interfering with my peaceful enjoyment of the lake I'd take issue too.
