Hi All,
I'm toying with the idea of buying a snow machine this winter to get out there for the lakers, but I have very limited experience with them. My main question is this: is insurance and registration/licensing required to run a sled on the ice? If so, approximately how much is it and what kind of hoops would I have to jump through?
I figure this is the forum to ask, I saw lots of sleds and atv's out there last year and it looks like fun :-)
Just thought of another question: is there any kind of safety certificate required for a snowmobile like there is for a car or motorcycle?

No real hoops to jump through. My insurance is about $280/yr and I forget what the sticker costs ? Maybe $40 (Same thing that goes on your vehicle license plate) trail pass if wanted is $250 well worth it for getting around. This winter should be the exact same if not a little colder and a bit more snow.

I just bought my trail pass yesterday, if u buy before nov 1 it is $180. From nov 1 to dec 1 it goes up to $220 i believe and after dec 1 its $260. As for the sticker, it was only $15 last year. I would think its the same this year as well. As Long as you have a valid DL & insurance on the sled thats all u need to ride on the lake.
Another thing with the trail pass, if u get a sled that is a 2000 or older its classed as a "classic" and the cost for a trail pass is $140
Cheers. Adam

But to clarify things if the sled is just used for ice fishing no trail pass is needed.

$15 for sticker, and insurance is what you need ,depending on age of sled, you might consider liability only,i have 2002 panther 570 and I pay $106 a year. Just my 2 cents, cheers.
