Was thinking of trying for birds on the bay this fall. Any advice? Just want to make sure I'll be doing it legally and not pissing anyone off. I'm planning on hunkering down in the marsh in a small boat, calling in. Am I going to be fighting for spots? By myself? Breaking some conservation law or what not....

If u don't have a blind out there I wouldn't go into any until after of each open season. Opener) the ppl that "build" the blind get 1st crack at it! After opener though its fair game 1st come 1st served. There is lots of good hunting to be had if you know decoy placement and proper calling techniques. I personally love hunting the bay, lots of ppl to meet at the ramp before going on the bay. I got a blind built out there and I will be out this AFT for a evening Goose hunt. Good luck and play safe, Give lots of distance between you and the hunter beside you, Those "Pellets" travel a good distance. Most ppl try to stay 100yds away from the next hunter. However some will park within 50yds. Flip

Ya I've heard about the dibs thing, makes sense. The older generation of hunters has kept me informed, I think its more than reasonable. Crowding can be a problem in a busy place, but everyone has the right to be there I guess. Its good to know that everyone tries to be civil. I'm new to the whole migratory bird thing, and this season will be my first at goose. Hopefully the weather and birds cooperate. Thanks for the response.

Too bad that happened after being nice and saying go ahead. Some people eh lol we were in a field for the opener in the morning. The birds had been there for about two weeks and I think ate out the field. the flock kept getting smaller and smaller as well with the hot weather it was keeping them to the lakes. We managed to get 9 out of four flights with 3 guys so all were happy at least we got to rip some shots.

So I did make it out onto the bay for geese. Decoys set up nice, good position. So I guess some of the things I've read are correct. Lots of people out there blasting...but shooting blackbirds? My buddy and I had to watch a couple flocks of incoming geese flash off on the landing. A hundred yards or so away there were some guys blasting off into the air every time that a flock of black birds flew by them. There is more than enough room, and I guess what they were doing was fine legal wise, but they sure made it hard to get geese to come. Probably just bad luck on my part, will try again in the next week, maybe black bird season will be over by then....

As of yet there has not been that wave of geese flying over head like years past . maybe its early . i can tell you this , last week some time some of the guys that set up in the marsh moved in land just back in the woods here in town , i could hear some chopping of some wood back in the bush along with gun shots normally were you don't here them .
