This season has been a tough one , with the birds henned up and going silent after fly down it has been challenging getting birds , after a little drive yesterday I spotted some birds hanging out in a pliers field , so decided to get the bow out and see if I couldn't smack the big boy this morning , got out at first light setup the popup blind and got ready , shortly after the tom started sounding off , at 630 he showed himself in the field , along wth 2 hens one bearded. Stayed in the field for about 5 minutes than gathered his hens up and back to the bush he went . I tried soft calling no response, so opted to get loud and aggressive , bingo , he was coming back , this time he stepped out at 50 yards and strutted back and fourth not coming any closer, the hens doubled and they were all dusting themselves in front of my decoys, I decided at this point he was coming any closer , I came to draw and let the first one fly , not realizing I hit the wire in the window which made it go right under the bird. Second shot was smack on the boiler room , The shot was between 60 to 70 yards , range finder wouldn't read accurate I paced the arrow and it was 73 yards , turkey was more than likely at 60 yards . Bird only went 20 yards inside the bush and died quickly , I am sure glad I shoot as much as I do , would have sucked watching a big tom strutting 60 yards knowing you can't hit it . Enjoy guys
