Slaughter, glad to hear the owner is taking actions to clear up this issue! Buzzing other fishermen is bad enough, but ruining fish is beyond unacceptable! Like I originally posted it was not the owner but one of his employees. No owner would do such a thing! What most likely happens, as this is not the first time I've heard a occurance like this one, is the owner most likely vents on his employees. They have to contend with many obsticals to provide fishing opportunities for ppl and I'm sure the stress level is very high. The young employees hear about the problems constantly and for some reason think they can help by taking such actions. For a little perspective; I was speaking with a buddy who took his family out this past Saturday. We always do our own thing, usually through the week, but he needed a hut for his children and booked in an area that had some decent reports. Well he advised it was a zoo. There were, cough, fishermen drilling holes with gas augers within 15 feet of the operator's huts! No regard whatsover! They caught next to nothing and left around noon even though he rented a full day. It wasn't long until the owner called him worried his customer was not happy with his service and may get a bad report. Not much you can do about all the idiots out there! Where do most ppl direct themselves when they hit the ice and have not rented? Yup towards huts. Like boats flocking towards other boats during soft water! You see there are fishermen, like most who contribute to boards, and then there are the lurkers who try to exploit every opportunity they can. Thanks for continually adding to these events. I'm sure everyone who reads this will find that Dave's Fish Huts is another good operator on the lady. His actions confirm that! Well said!! - There are many more lurkers than members of any board on Lake Simcoe. Give them nothing - zero. Try to avoid specific locations, etc. Bottom feeders! I have no problem with ice reports, but as I always have, I check as I go. harry

Met up with Andrew this morning at first light , he had a large dd there for me wen I arrived , we spoke for about a half hour about the issue and he seemed like a real stand up guy , I also met his to hired help both guys seemed to be good , Murray and I can't remember the other gentlemen but all seemed very nice , he gave me minnows for the inconvience and said f I need anything name it , he has earned my respect and I will deal with him again.

Post this in my forum and then I will post it on all my facebook pages twitter and a few others I have
I have thousands of Americans as well that come here that would see that as well
I don't like people like this especially hut operators who think they own the lake plenty of fish for everyone

Skip id appreciate if you don't do that, The punishment doesn't fit the crime . You will affect even more someones livelihood negatively and im sure you don't want that . Being an operator I can make a couple comments here first hand . There use to be a time long ago that I was very protective of the guys fishing around the camp , I understand I don’t own the ice but I do have a responsibility to protect myself from your inadvertent liability that I could face if I don’t educate you . The problems occur when you use a hut as a wind brake, it’s the holes that are left that are the problem for various reasons, flooding is one, the other is a customer could step on that existing hole that you drilled right up close to the hut perhaps twisting a ankle, not saying it would but it could happen . If you have a look at the south end of the bay now, ice cabins camp has many private huts set up in proximity …. Everyone’s happy having a great ice fishing season. Lets drop this and wish Dave a great ice fishing season..

Dan o.[/quot I agree totally I just wanted to make people aware that the issue was handled and that Dave ice huts isn't bad , Andrew the owner is a stand up guy that had a tool working for him and he was not aware , I don't want people to sway away from fishing that area or renting from him , because he did everything he could to fix the issue , And for that I respect him

Good followup, slaughter. I didnt mean to cut you off in anyway. Lots of people take the time to slam somebody but never followup. Good on you for bringing it to a positive conclusion. Dan o.

The biggest danger is not the health and welfare of the poor perch..Its the H&W of the poor angler siting in the hut. I have had numerous people run within feet of my hut in Gilford. If they lose control im done like an over cooked perch. That's why I now bring my 6ft3 235lb x hockey player son with me to give a winter baptism to the next dick that wants to play bumper sleds. Glad your ok and nothing worse happened. I now bring my GOPRO and camera with zoom lens to take pics of sledders and their numbers.

Nice perch haul! Congratulations. Nice the operator took steps to deal with the bad employee. Hope your meeting with him goes well.
IMHO the MNR staffer should/could have taken steps to deal with the issue as well. The Game/Fish Act now includes a part dealing with people who interfere with legal hunting/fishing activities and it has always included a provision re wasting fish and game meat. The driver could be at least approached by the MNR on these counts. The MNR dude may have just been, say, a forester getting some hours in doing creel census, but he really should have contacted his superiors to get advice /report the incident. Heck, the OPP could also have been involved as some form of 'careless/dangerous/reckless driving' also seems to have occurred. Tracks, crushed perch, description of the sled, driver clothing and a brief investigation probably could have quickly determined who the driver was even though his face was helmeted.
All this could at least have been done to send a message to the operator/his staff that such acts are unacceptable. Sounds like MNR should send a letter out to all lake operators indicating they need to monitor employees to avoid such problems which may come back to them in terms of fines or maybe even revoked permits if there is such a thing for them.
I was out same area last season and we had an operator/employee roar past too fast IMO on the ice road. Some of our crew was kinda looking for him at the operators to exchange thoughts on the subject but he disappeared. Folks walking are going to use ice roads. Most move over when they hear a snowmobile coming down it behind them. But when the snowmobile is going too fast the walkers don't hear or have time to move aside. Kinda scary when a machine flies by a few feet away. We're all in this together so let's all try and get along.

Fishermen Helping Fishermen Thanks Skipper I have spoke with the owner Andrew and he has made things right and fixed the issue , What I will say is I brought this issue to attention because I couldn't get anywhere and I needed to vent and let people know , after finally getting a hold of the actuall owner and sorting this issue out it should be put to bed , I read a email sent to him from a member of this board , about this issue and the member was threatening a lot of harmful things to him and the crew, there is absolutely no need for harm to come to someone at all , not over a. Issue like this , he knows he made a mistake , fired the guy and made things right with me , and for that he earned my respect , And I will deal with him in the future ,
