A buddy and I decided to head up to Virginia beach for a couple days of fishing and to check on the cottage, got up yesterday around 2, stopped into te operator on hadden road, bought minnows and a few lures off of him and asked about the fishing and ice conditions , said fishing was good but ice wasn't very thick , we saw the ice road was open so drove out and drilled a few holes off the road to check ice , well his idea of thin ice was 20 inches total , We fished the afternoon ad got into a few nice schools of jumbos , Got up this morning and headed back to our honey hole, Got setup and got right into the fish , had about 30 outside the side window of the 2 man flip hut , when al of a sudden I hear a sled, the hut operater goes flying by 4 ft away crushing out perch , at this point I am pissed , 5 minutes later a mnr officer stops and checks us and we let him know what happened , he looks at the fish and tracks and shakes his head , I guess this isn't the first complaint about these tools , So we go back to fishing and I see him coming back across the lake , I am still at that point pissed about the 20 jumbos that were crushed and ruined , so I get out to stop the operator , what's he do comes flying by close again and flips me off , he got a scooper and can of Pepsi whaled at his sled , both were picked up after .
These guys have no respect for others , they want the lake for themselves ,
We had a good day of fishing other than that , caught a lot of good fish , fight threw the small ones ,
We paced out the distance between the trck and hut and it was 15 yards , he managed to drive between that and exactly 3 yards from our hut .

Yeah, many years ago, one operator tried to cut really close while I was walking out of willow beach. They don't like it because your not a customer... they act like they own the lake.. (not saying all are like that, but some of them think they own the lake.)

the outfitter best be careful,, after all hes got a lot of $$ in huts out there.. if he blazes by the wrong crew his stuff could be at risk one night out there, and id not feel sorry for him if he or his employees act this way.

Last yr I had problems with the locals on the island! There "Cop" came to us said we were to close to "the road" We were about 300 metres from the tree line. Cop said that wasn't the road anymore I was on it.. So of course I told him he should stick to the tree line or put another 1 up! As for torching the huts.... yup I remember a hut operator who had his 2 camps burnt an no 1 eles huts were touched! Think Karma can be a B$tch when you show 0 respect to others. Glad you got into fish an made the best of it anyways. flip

I've heard similar reports from that area before. I guarantee you it is not the owner of an outfitter, it will be one of his young mentally disturbed employees. How did you know it was an operator? How many operate in that area, 3 maybe four? If they did that to me I would contact each of them with a description of the sled and rider. Perhaps you did not see him well if you were inside but even with no description I would still contact them. Its not good for any of their businesses! Your out there to enjoy a day and to scrub stress, and you probably came home with more! I know its easy to toss fish outside on the ice but I would not recommend doing so. Perhaps toss them in a bucket? Not that I would ever consider some idiot running over my catch but it does wave the come fish close to me flag! There is always someone driving around looking for good catches and I've seen heards of 20+ fishermen move right in on someone that openly displays the good day they are having.

There is always someone driving around looking for good catches and I've seen heards of 20+ fishermen move right in on someone that openly displays the good day they are having. There is only one operator off the end of hadden road, Dave's , he has yellow and brown huts , and behind each sled they have a yellow hut on sleighs to transport guys out and in from the huts , he was towing the hut when he ripped by us at 3 yards away , I called this morning to the owner and he pretty much denied it , I said there was 2 other group 200 yards away he did it to and te mnr officer heard about it , he laughed and said ya mnr can't do anything . I said that's fine you want to run a shady bussines go for it but I will be sure to let guys know what your like , So if anyone is thinking about going out with Dave's hut rentals , off of hadden road Virginia beach , don't he pulls dangerous moves on the lake to scare off other anglers , to the extent of running your fish over and completely ruining 20 fish .

That's just unfreakinbelievable! What an idiot! I'd post that on every board I could find. DO NOT SUPPORT DAVE'S FISH HUTS OFF HADDEN RD! I am a very easy going that usually supports the hut rental places , may not rent a hut but I purchased minnows and a few lures , 20 dollars worth the gear , enough I though , Now I wouldn't give him a penny after the stunt he pulled and I will be sure to let everyone else know not to give him business

Good Morning
If you guys can give the owner the benefit of the dough would be appreciated , its a very short season, respectfully some comments im reading are not supported by the cbfb . Burn the huts down, flood emails, I cant support this kind of retribution because its not right . I would think any owner of a hut operation that finds out that his employee is creating a liability by being a dick out on the ice would do the right thing by firing his ass, as the case here .
The owner has done the right thing, remember it was not him that ran over your perch but when he found out about the situation took action .
Dave's hut rentals , off of hadden road Virginia beach
Give him a call if your looking for a hut out that way .

I agree Peter I was heated after the insident occurred and it seemed like they didnt care when I reached out , but now I spoke with the one owner and informed him he seems to be sincerely sorry , seems like a stand up guy , I would deal with him , there is no doubt he purchased clients in fish and as long has his guys respect other fisherman out there I have respect for him , Just got heated when it happened , I do apologize just had to vent ,nothing worse than having fishing ruined be aust of a bone head trying to be a smart ass

Slaughter, glad to hear the owner is taking actions to clear up this issue! Buzzing other fishermen is bad enough, but ruining fish is beyond unacceptable!
Like I originally posted it was not the owner but one of his employees. No owner would do such a thing! What most likely happens, as this is not the first time I've heard a occurance like this one, is the owner most likely vents on his employees. They have to contend with many obsticals to provide fishing opportunities for ppl and I'm sure the stress level is very high. The young employees hear about the problems constantly and for some reason think they can help by taking such actions.
For a little perspective; I was speaking with a buddy who took his family out this past Saturday. We always do our own thing, usually through the week, but he needed a hut for his children and booked in an area that had some decent reports. Well he advised it was a zoo. There were, cough, fishermen drilling holes with gas augers within 15 feet of the operator's huts! No regard whatsover! They caught next to nothing and left around noon even though he rented a full day. It wasn't long until the owner called him worried his customer was not happy with his service and may get a bad report. Not much you can do about all the idiots out there!
Where do most ppl direct themselves when they hit the ice and have not rented? Yup towards huts. Like boats flocking towards other boats during soft water! You see there are fishermen, like most who contribute to boards, and then there are the lurkers who try to exploit every opportunity they can.
Thanks for continually adding to these events. I'm sure everyone who reads this will find that Dave's Fish Huts is another good operator on the lady. His actions confirm that!
