We are very sorry to hear of your loss! Any dad that takes the time to teach his children the joys of fishing is a great man and it sounds like your dad was no exception to that rule. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

My thoughts are with you....I lost my father at 18...never fished with him...wish we did...I used to fish every weekend with my two boys when they were small...just getting back into it now...looking forward to this weekend and getting back out there with them...fish or no fish. I agree Hats off to those that were there for you to help as much as they could. There are many good people out there.

Please accept my condolences as well kennycar. It's very classy of you to come here and thank the people who helped you and your father in a very difficult situation. Like many people have already mentioned here, you will have your good memories of him for as long as you live, and he will live in your heart for many more years to come...

Very ,very sorry to hear of you and your familie's loss . It takes time for the grief to subside but it will numb my friend and then the dreams begin and after every one of them you will wake up with a smile again . After ten years I still have arguments and laughs with my dad while dreaming . Take Care .

I was Ice fishing the day my Father died , my wife called and asked if I was coming home soon, she didn't want to tell me hurry or what had happened. I thought she was just feeling lonely, my wife is ill so at times being alone gets to her.. So I get home and get the news. I had been having a real good day that day and just before I get the are you coming home call I get a nice pike . I am just checking if my Minnow is dead and he is on, hit the line in my hand the fun way, not the dead stick not as fun way.. I think back and think my Dad put that fish on for me.. He didn't get around well in his last few years, when I called him and asked how he was . He always said something like I just got back from so and so and i caught all these fish or I just shot 10 rabbits .. He said it so convincingly you would have believed him. He wasn't going anywhere in reality, but I am sure his best trips and hunts were all in his head.. Your Dad was out there. Hell when my time comes, I want to be setting the hook on a nice rainbow, leaning back in a chair after having taken a swig of real good vodka.. Then say good bye.. My Dad was home and he died without pain. Your Dad was out on the Ice so he probably felt pretty good that day or he would have been sitting on a couch and not happy about it.. I think going out feeling good is better then feeling your ship is sinking and knowing what is coming.. It is all hard and I miss my dad allot. A priest told me to share his stories and spread his wisdom.. He told allot of stories and he had some close calls in his life. i love his best advice "La vita e duro " Life is hard. The world owes you nothing you need to work for it all.. Also in a way it makes you remember to take nothing for granted, when you work hard for it you tend to take better care of it too. You need to Miss Your Father and mourn Him it will take time , but when you get a chance celebrate his memory tell a good story about him share his wisdom's.. It may hurt to recall him but it will help you heal some..
The two things I would be doing and never fail to call my dad were. Any time I came back from fishing , my first call was to Dad. the other was as soon as the BBQ was started and I popped a lid on a beer and started the Burgers, called my dad to say Hi.. So Ice fishing and a Beer and Q will always make me think of him. Far from making these happy events sad they have made them better and given me cause to think on someone who taught me so much. On most days I ain't so bad because i had that good teacher . So Ice Fishing will now make you think of this ,and at first that is Gonna hurt , but take my advice and celebrate him when you go and you will have better times not sad ones.. I lost my Father 3 years ago Jan 11 .. Just saying I know this hurts and i hope my words will make some sense to you .. Condolences To you and Your family for this very hard event
