Well after watching Peters reports, I made a text to Daffyducking an we decided to give it 1 more try!
We unloaded all our gear, I brought my 14ft jon boat. So we were filled up with decoys, safety gear shells.an guns.
Putting the boat in was easy! But when we got to lowerend we ran into the ice, it was at begining 1/4in.
Next thing we were standing on the ice with boat in 1 hand each! We literally dragged the boat on top of the ice.
We managed to get into a old blind out there! We than we about 20ft from that an the ice was cracking underneath us so we went slow an steady!!
When we got about 20ft from the blind we got into the boat. Than the ice broke, good timing!
Anyways we opened up a big spot in the ice to set out the decoys! We than drove back on the ice! Dragged the boat about 75ft from us an stood in the blind! And we waited an watched the birds. Yes there was lots of birds however only 1 mallard was taken, No ducks wanted to pass the ice line as they were flying along the edge!
After awhile we decided we should break the ice so the birds might come closer. Well after all that work I think we scared everything out of the bay.
We should of did this right away... anyways it was getting late an Daffy had to go to Doctors so we decided to pick up an head in.
Was it worth it Heck Ya!! Am I doing that kind of hunt again this yr? Heck No! it was fun but at the same time was a little disturbing that we were standing only 20 ft from open water on 3inches of ice!
I think I got to buy a layout boat now...
But I will say I have met a new friend and a good outdoorsman once again on CBFB!
So far everyone I have met on this board either hunting or fishing have been nothing but ''good'' PPL.
And that says alot for this board!
Anyways play safe all an hope you all have a great hunting season an a great ice fishing season!!
