Holly ended getting called into work monday morning so it was to be an afternoon hunt for her last try this year. I knew of a field where the birds usually showed up around 5pm so that was our destination. Nice easy walk in from where we would park the truck and because of the heat we decided to forgo the usual rubber boots for light hikers. Big mistake. As we pulled into the laneway at 3:30pm we saw the birds already in the field where we wanted to be. Plan B would take us on a 1.5km hike thru the nastiest slop you could imagine. I could sense the lack of enthusiasim as we got closer to the back door on the birds but we pushed on. When we got set up I saw the birds but they were now 150yds away. I wasnt sure if they made us or not but I started with some subtle calls and ramped it up until I saw their heads pop up. a while later they started our way and Holly dropped the hammer on her second longbeard ever. A 22lb brute with a 10.5" beard and one hair stretching out to 11 1/4" and matching 1 1/8" spurs. Next time she has to shoot a smaller bird or she can carry it out herself. LOL Had to add the weapons used, 20ga Mossy with Pure Gold .570, HeviShot#6's TurkeySlayer Slate call and GobbleStalker Striker. What a season this year. RED

Hey I'm a bit late congratulating you and your wife on this fantastic tom - but better late than never, eh?! Nice job on the stalk and who cares about wet feet on a hot day when you have turkeys ahead? The smile on the lady's face says it all and the picture is just great. I myself managed a 14.5 lb jake this year, for which I am very thankful and it tasted much better than tag soup. Looks like you have a great place to hunt there and you know the area & the birds' behaviour pattern very well. Success is sweet but it almost always is a result of hard work and many hours outdoors.
