On May 31, police observed a young woman walking on Simcoe Street in Bradford, carrying an open can of beer.
The officer stopped to investigate the infraction. The accused refused to identify herself. The officer arrested the accused under the Liquor Licence Act, for fail to identify. Once arrested, the accused became violent and began resisting. The accused spat on three officers, who were trying to control her. The accused was handcuffed, but continued to act completely out of control. The accused tried to harm herself by striking her head on the cruiser, then later on the sidewalk. Paramedics attended and had to sedate the accused.
The woman was transported to hospital, and held there under the provisions of the Mental Health Act. The accused, a 16-year-old of no fixed address, will face charges of assault police (three counts), breach of probation (two counts) and breach of recognizance (two counts), upon her release from hospital. The accused is also wanted on warrants held for Peel Regional and Timmins police.
