An armed gunman has barricaded himself in a home on Bayview Ave. in Keswick — less than 12 hours after a separate standoff occurred between police and an armed gunman at a Swiss Chalet in Etobicoke.
When police arrived at the house in a residential neighbourhood just after 3 a.m., they heard shots being fired from inside, said Sgt. Gary Phillips.
A family member, believed to be the brother of the suspect, managed to escape from the home and contacted police.
Emergency Task Force officers and a hostage negotiator are at the scene. They have yet to make contact with the suspect after almost five hours outside the house.
It is unclear whether anyone else is in the house with the suspect, Phillips said.
Police have blocked off the area and are asking residents in that zone to stay in their homes. If they have to leave the area, they are told to call officers who will escort them.
The cordoned off area is east of the Queensway S. near Bayview Ave.
“The confirmed firearm is our biggest concern,” Phillips said.

An armed gunman surrendered himself after a five-and-a-half-hour standoff with police at a home in Keswick that began early Saturday.
The man had barricaded himself in a house on Bayview Ave. near The Queensway S., Sgt. Gary Phillips said. He was armed with a shotgun, Phillips added.
A family member, believed to be the brother of the suspect, managed to escape from the home and contacted police.
When police arrived in the residential neighbourhood just after 3 a.m., they heard shots being fired from inside the house, Phillips said.
Emergency Task Force officers and a hostage negotiator were at the scene for almost five hours before they were able to make contact with the suspect.
“There was contact made and at around 8:30 a.m. he surrendered himself to police,” Phillips said.
It is unclear whether anyone else was in the house with the suspect, he said.
No injuries have been reported.
The suspect, 41, was arrested and charged with possession of dangerous weapons, careless use of a firearm and unauthorized possession of a firearm. The incident is still being investigated and police could lay more charges.
