the 24-hour English news channel headquartered in Doha, has begun with its broadcast operations in the state of Canada. The media group received the approval from the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) last November to commence its operations in the nation.
Being the world's first global English language news channel to be headquartered in the Middle East, Al Jazeera English faced several protests over its allegedly being the mouthpiece of Arab groups. Thus, the channel was being restrained to be aired in Canada.
The Channel will set up its first bureau in Canada next month, thus becoming the first foreign channel to have a full-fledged bureau in this country. Al Jazeera English is to be headed by Canadian journalist Tony Burman as the Managing Director in the region and would be distributed by cable service providers Bell, Rogers and Videotron.
Currently Al Jazeera English is said to have over 70 bureaus worldwide with its broadcasting centres located at Kuala Lumpur, Doha, London and Washington. Besides, the channel aims to give voice to untold stories, promote debate, and challenge established perceptions and looks to bridge cultures providing a unique grassroots perspective from under-reported regions around the world to a potential global audience of over one billion English speakers.
