I want to know why is there so much alcohol being served at events throughout Innisfil.
Every event I have been to has had at least one fight occur. On Saturday, I attended the David Wilcox concert at the Innisfil Recreation Complex. I believe that the show would have been amazing. Would have, if it wasn’t for the massive amount of people that were so drunk they could barely stand.
I watched as a young drunk man in his early 20'spilled his beer all over woman and hit her in the eye with a closed fist, and he did not even realize it. All he cared about was were his next drink was coming from.
What followed then? Well several of his friends started pushing and shoving the woman, husband and someone who I assume was their son. Eventually, another drunken idiot threw a punch at the husband and all hell broke loose.
I watched as a father and young kid tried to hold off five drunken fools! Five! Against two! Many punches were thrown and luckily the police and security jumped in fast, or else who knows what would have happened. A woman is hit in the eye and five morons try to flaunt their masculinity by beating on the two closest people.
When a show is held at a bar or a pub, there is a limit to how much a person can drink. Bartenders and waitresses make sure no one is too intoxicated, and security removes anyone before problems arise.
So tell me why alcohol being served like this. There seem to be no restrictions, and if there are some, they are not enforced. How many people have to get hurt, or have their evening ruined, before the town realizes that alcohol at big events is a terrible idea. So many people get so drunk they can hardly speak, and then walk up and buy another beer. Is the town so desperate for money that it will allow anyone to drink themselves into a stupor?
I do not want to go to another event in this town and see a display like what I saw Saturday. I do not want to see another woman receive a black eye simply because some fool has had more alcohol than a person should in a night. There should be a limit that is strictly enforced if alcohol is served at future events. Many events should not even have an option of a 'beer tent'.
I want this town to be safe, and if someone gets hurt due to over-drinking, it is the municipality's fault for allowing such conduct to occur.
