I see your question has been sitting here awhile. Personally, I just bought my first bike last year. I went with 4wd and I think anyone who ventures off the path would regret not going with 4x4 too. Had to retreive my hut after that big wind storm. The ice was completely bare and like driving on glass. Without the 4wd I wouldn't have been able to move an inch. Spend the extra few hundred, its worth it. With the amount of snow we get up here two wheel drive is just hassle. Went on a big mud run last may and the 2wd quads could not get past the first km. Just some thoughts. Are you in the market? Go with Yamaha.

Although 2 wd drives will work with chains on I would also reccommend 4wd and a winch . A 2 wheel drive will get an awful pounding if things get rough out there . Spend the extra and go with 4 wheel drive .

Hey Howie, How did your summer go? I picked up a used Yamaha Kodiak 400, full time 4x4, I've been riding a few trails to get used to it. I agree with the other comments, get 4 wheel drive. I'll be riding out this year, no more long walks. I'll save 10 bucks for parking every time I go, that should pay for the machine over the next 20 years
