where an when is the best time to catch some nice sized trout in local rivers?

where are you from? are you thinking threw the ice or open water? what type of trout ? i fish trout all the time i could give you a few tips

Im from the alliston area and im thinking anything from brookies to brown trout and rainbows.

go for bows and browns in the spring and fall check your regulations there to find out when they open in the spring. usaully the baits they like in the spring are tiny spinners just held in the current . worms under a float or fake 3 inch pink worms and also roe bags brown roe works best. u have to be quite and keep a low profile and use a light leader about 3-4 pound depending on the clairity of the water also use tiny hooks size 12-16 if u get good hatches of bugs u can also try to fly fish for them with dry flys in the spring or single egg flies. make sure u use small split shots too
