The other weekend i was out on the water and was trolling through the fisherman at the bottom of Cooks Bay. There were at least a hundred boats on the water that day, easily. AS I am trolling along I see a couple of guys, in their 40-50's at least, I say that in a GOOD way seein as I am in MY 40's. It does not tkae me long to realise htey are paddling their boat INTO a strong headwind towards shore. OK these guys need help, the motor is obviously not werkin for them.
I decide to motor over and offer them a tow. I motor over and pass at LEAST 15 baots on my way. It is VERY obvious these guys are in need. Not ONE person offered to lend a hand!!!!! I tied them on and in like 15minutes had them to the mouth of the marina they had rented the boat from. They offered to give me some coin, I declined, was not really a big deal for me as it was for them, they were EXHAUSTED.
POINT HERE... I wonder how many of the other boats on the lake took/take it for granted their motor will get them back again safely/reliably. I wonder if any of THEM would have been annoyed if THEY needed assistance and were ignored as these guys were.
i have seen this posted somewhere before, but is it not the LAW that you are required to offer assistance to a boat in need? Besides it being the law, come ON, it is just common courtesy to offer assistance when needed.
Maybe it isjust my small-town thinking, is it wrong of me to assume they ones ignoring these peoples were, what we call "citiots"? We boater sure like to wave to each other, but is that as far as it goes??
i hope this post raises some eye brows and gets some attention. It is a SERIOUS situation than one day YOU may be in.
