Headed out this afternoon to look for early spawning suckers and wasn't disappointed. Bylaw prohibits bowfishing in the area, so the spear was busted out. A new challenge, plenty of exercise, and some bait in the freezer. 27.4lbs cleaned.

Right on gents. Haven't tried em myself, but a buddy fried up a few fillets and really enjoyed it.
Never been one for canning-might be something to look into.
I'm hoping to smoke the next batch if I get out again before the run is over.
Bait? Gunna use em in trolling meat rigs for lake trout and on the hair for summer carp.

that brings back memories of 50 years ago. my dad and a couple of his budies would round up us kids early on a saturday mourning to go and trap suckers in a cage just south of kippen. we would catch hundreds, bag them up and take them to the dublin hotel. us kids would walk downstream several hundred yards, then walk back to the bridge throwing rocks in the creek to scare the fish towards the trap. the old boys would then take us to dublin where us kids sat in the car and sold the fish while our dads drank beer in the bar. if I remember right the price was $1 for as many fish as you wanted because a pitcher of beer was $1 when we got home (usualy late at night) any left over fish would be filleted and left to soak overnight in the fridge. the next day (after sunday school) I would help mother pack the fish in jars for canning. just like salmon. now a days I suppose the police, mnr, and the childrens aid would be involved. but somehow we all survived.
thanks for the memories ,and tight lines eveyone.
