Hello all. Just looking for ideas and opinions. I have recently been getting into winter camping and own a 10 man Canadian military bell tent. Have bought a small wood stove to heat it with and plan on trying it out this weekend. Any ideas tips or hints anyone can tell me would be great. I have a fire extinguisher and a CO detector that runs on batteries. No floor in tent but laying plywood down where I am sleeping. How warm do you think it can get in the tent? Other things I should consider?

there are tons of videos on you tube. just google "hot tent". like a lot of stuff on the internet not everything you see or hear is 100% foolproof. use common sense. avoid burning too much stuff that creates a lot of creasote, like birchbark and resinous wood. do not put anything near the stove that you don't want to catch fire. tents are not the most rock solid of structures and can get shaken quit easily by wind, falling snow , stumbles in the dark, drunken budies etc. befor seting up your tent clear the ground of snow, it will melt and can freeze tent edges to the ground. making packing up almost imposible . properly set up a wood stove in a tent is a thing of beauty and will extend your campig season to all year round. have fun and enjoy.

Hey everyone. Got a chance to try out my tent this weekend and had a blast. -16 outside with a windchill of -24. Had it sitting between 10-16 inside tent and that was without the liner inside. I had plywood on the floor and slept on old cushions from an old pop up trailer. Only issue I had was trying to get tent pegs into the frozen ground. I ended up chopping slits in the ground with an axe to try and get below frost. Looking forward to many more trips and making small improvements each time.

Why not use the liner? I have had 13 years in the Forces & used those tents many times over. The liner will keep things far warmer so a smaller fire would be needed. The liner will also reduce condensation on the canvas down. Another benefit of using the liner is the cord that holds the liner makes a great place to hang gloves ect. for drying.
