Lake Simcoe and Cooks Bay has been a wash for me this year. I had one good weekend where I boated a few Pike and a gang of large mouths but other than that, it has been pretty dismal year for me in this body of water. This weekend will be the last time on the water and wondering if anyone has had any luck with crappie in the rivers or even in cooks recently. Cheers.

Do they inhabit all the same areas as the perch or are they pretty much in the rivers only? Any help is always appreciated.

I spoke to some guys fishing in the canal near the canal exit on the 400 and they said they were catching crappie. I don't trust the canal for fear of farm run-off and I am not catching crappie for the sport of the fight. I will try closer to the mouth of cooks today and if I get into any, I will report back.

From what ive heard MOST of the crappie live in the main lake year round and only visit the rivers to spawn so they are not affected by the farm run off as much. 13" SLAB from spring

I never got into any crappie that weekend. In fact, i got into a total of 3 perch for the whole morning. The thing that kills me about Cooks is that the boats fish so close to each other. I always find large groups of boats within 20 yards, some 20 feet. Crazy. I feel this is bad etiquette but what do i know.
