Hello Cooks Bay Board! I have a question regarding transom savers. I purchased a new boat this spring and was contemplating on installing a transom saver.
Its an 2016 18' aluminum boat with a 90HP. Been doing my research but heard everything from left to right all inconsistent. I do travel through dirt, bumpy roads occasionally.
My dealer says I don't need one because of the energy transfer back to the lower unit when trailering. Also if your boat tie downs get loose the energy goes into the lower unit as well. There is no shock absorbency between the trailer and the lower unit engine attachment from what I understand. What does everyone here do? Does it really save your transom. Hope you can help!

If your worried about what they say you could try one like this image hosting over 2mb . I use the standard long transom saver and all is good. Don't use it? Good bye transom . Do use it? Good by LU ... lol

I don't know to much about them just always heard good. Didn't know there was any bad sides father in law has one and always has.

i dont think that shock absorbency is the idea behind a transom saver. its more about not subjecting the transom and trim cyl to the downward forces of the motor when on a bumpy road but allowing the spring action on the upward motion as the top is secured with a bungee. my 2 cents...

This is also my understanding. A couple of us trailered out our boats over a bumpy rough road and the one guy without a saver had noticeable indents where the motor was clamped to the transom. In fact he actualy had to tighten the clamps a bit. Why put the extra stress on such an important area of your boat. I have always had one and always used one. Mine is a simple one from Princess AUto, basically an arm that supports my motor and is bungee corded on the top.

I also use one . having an older boat with a 150 on the back i like the idea of taking stress off of the transom and trim especially since the big motors weigh a ton.
As for with a new boat. You might not need it but i think it will help protect your investment.
