Are live wigglers considered an invasive species. My group coming up would like to bring them, but if they are can we bring dehydrated wigglers? Also why is there a snow shovel in the video? Lol. See you in February Peter!!!!

also believe it or not, worms are also an invasive, they eat up all the fallen leaves under the snow and leave no shelter for salimanders, so when u see wood lots barren w just dirt ontop, that means a lot of worms!!!!! also in Algonquin u r allowed no worms at all even for fishing, big fine if caught w them, u cant even blend them up in a blender and use them as spray, cause eggs can still b transmitted.
ppl blame stupidity on ignorance, I think its ignorance that cause stupidity!!!!
and gold fish are just as invasive as grass carp ect., look at lk Michigan or erie and the 10+ lbs gold fish they r catching now and eating everything in the lake!!!

Peter, What sort of invasive species should we look out for in our minnow buckets. I know of a few: Alewife. Rudd fish, not to be confused with the native golden shiner. Fins are bright red Fully scaled belly (keel) Eyes are red or have a red spot Golden shiner. (Acceptable Bait for Simcoe.) Fins are yellow-green (except in spawning adults). Breeding males have red-orange anal fin with a black outline No scales on belly (keel) Eyes are yellow-green Rainbow smelt. And of course try not to use any Sea Lamprey as bait.

The obligation is from the bait dealer that supplies you minnows to make sure there’s no invasive species in the scoop of bait your being sold. You guys as end users have to do your part to based on the rules as thy are now.Inspect your bait to make sure your not transferring bait that’s not local to lake Simcoe , yes its hard to tell but make sure its emerald shiners your using , make sure its fresh water the baits being transported in , using your own minnow bucket ? Make sure it’s been cleaned, the idea here is that no water from your bait will be dumped into the lake as it can potentially contain vhs as can be the minnow itself , it can be infected as well . Stressors create problems for minnows in a tank, like water temperature, matting habits, food, over crowding create stress that chases vhs in a minnow, from there the infected minnow releases the Viral Hemorrhagic Septicemia ( VHS ) into water and in turn your bringing it un knowingly to Cooks Bay , that’s the reason the MNR wants to keep bait water out of the lake as it might contain VHS .

Nonsense funguy . Your allowed worms in 90 percent of the park or more , just not live bait fish or dead/live herring . Dead minnows are allowed in most lakes too .As far as why you see some wood lots barren of leaves is because they have biodegraded down . It's not about worms . Another reason they may have little undergrowth is that there is too much shade and soil is acidic from the constant rotting of the leaves year to year . TD

See you in February Peter!!!! Would also like to know if wigglers are banned/illegal to have or use on lake simcoe? My experience as never really been cleared up. One year had 6 dozen wigglers I brought and after speaking with a couple locals they expressed that them there wigglers was a HUGE no-no. I expressed to destroy them and he mentioned "oh no don't do that" then proceeded to offer me a brand new pair of Sorel boots for the wigglers. Thanks for the boots! Can anyone clarify as to yes or no on bringing or using wigglers on lake simcoe? Thanks

I'm not a 100% on this but I would say no to live wigglers that aren't local to the lake. As for dried I would think that would be ok since they can't reproduce or destroy anything but again not 100%

Am I missing something on this thread? We have vending machines all over the place that sells dew worms and you can pick them up in different stores. Are the "Wigglers" that you are talking about different from the "Dew Worms"?

Yes they are different than dew worms. With wigglers they are not worms and Wigglers live in water.
