Hi all,
I was scouting for places to hunt the duck opener and noticed lots of name plates sticking out of the water in Holland river mouth. As I understand this is to block the spot and wondering is it legal or is there sort of unwritten agreement? Also what are the rules?
Thanks

Thanks, I know of blind reservation for opener but problem is I haven't seen any blinds near name plates. Dont want to start arguing with people over hunting spot but at the same time I am not sure if staking piece of cattail is acceptable. Was wondering if there is any "unofficial" agreement among hunters on Cook's Bay

It's supposed to be a blind but lots of times there is a blind behind the reeds and it's only for the opener. First come first serve after that

Also ppl are getting into making their own "boat blind" therefore you will not see a Permanent blind there just a Stick with a plate. But you will see them on "Opener" Flip

Thanks for help guys. Now I understand the idea of blocking the perma blind on the opening day - someone put lots of time and effort into building one and since everyone can use it for years to come, its only fair that person gets a exclusive right to use it on most anticipated/exciting day of the season. Boat blinds on other hand can only be used by owner so blocking off some reed patch for it isn't fair in my opinion. What you think?

Its a catch 22
I built blinds out there for at least 15yrs, but after getting frustrated with going out and only finding that my/the blind was already occupied and I had to take a 2nd or 3rd choice. I decided it was time to put a blind right on my boat.
This way there's no rush to get out there and I can go anywhere I want. Yes I stay at least 150-200yds from Permie blinds as I don't need 1... Flip

I don't even hunt this area until late late season because its way too crowded. Its sucks because I live two kilometers away. It would be convenient. But too many times I've gotten out to one of my spots early only to have people show up and crowd me a half hour later. People shooting at birds landing in my decoys and spraying me with steel shot. people shooting at blackbirds because they are bored. Not worth the stress. I understand that everyone would like to hunt there, every one IS entitled. No ones owns it, so I just bow out. Ha, now I drive an hour away and hunt somewhere else until late season. I like hunting in peace and quite. Too many hunters stresses me out.

Only certain regulated areas (hullet and Luther marsh are the only ones I know of) have "designated blinds" where there is minimum distances between them. Anywhere out in public you can set up right beside one one if you like (kind of a jerk move but whatever)

When did Luther marsh implement designated blinds?
