how would i make a tip up for perch.. wanna try out some tip ups instead of rods, cuz the ring guides always freeze.anyone know how to make one.thanks for any help.pfb

Last year when I was fishing Callander Bay, they used a very simple tip up.
Just take a piece of coat hanger wire or a little thinner but still sturdy about 12" or longer and bend one end into a half loop and stick the other end into the wall of the fish hut, someplace sturdy where it won't pull out.
Tie on 3 single hooks about a foot or so apart with a six inch piece of line and a weight on the bottom, about 1/4 oz for every ten feet.
Lower to the bottom baited with minnows and raise a couple of inches off the bottom
Tie a loop at the point where it meets your wire about 3' above the floor of the fish hut or where it is out of the way and hang your rig on the line. The wire is really sensitive and and you immediately see your prey nibbling.
Grab the line, set the hook and VOILA!

Here a few I use. You can make them out of a paint stick for perch. RR
