I've been busy building a new to me transport for out on the ice. The only reason I haven't been on Cooks or any part of Simcoe is that the ice hasn't been to my liking. Here's a very short vid of what I built for this ice season and sadly had to go to Lake Nipissing to test it out. I call them Sally and Bob; a tracked Suzuki Sidekick and a bobsled, built on an old design; with cross chain front & rear steering; as a tow behind/warm up shack.
Hope to be back on Simcoe next year!!!! Peter. Does that quad look familiar to you?
Dan.

Sally met all my expectations and more. 2-2 1/2 feet of snow wasn't a problem for her; even pulling Bob with all our gear and 2 guys riding inside. When we hit a drift she'd slow down a bit; until the tracks dug through the snow and the cleats bit into the ice. Rpm would come back up and push us through the bank; as if it wasn't there. Not going to lie, we did get stuck once. Didn't realize that this hard crusted bank was as deep as it was. When the front wheels broke through, she got hung up on top of the drift. Got the winch and auger out, drilled a hole, set the ice anchor and we were on the move again; 15 minutes tops and no shoveling. Fishing was tough with the bitter cold and wind gusts of 45 klm an hour. We ended our trip with 3 keeper walleye and a dozen of jumbo perch. Inside of Bob before it was finished. Since the pic, I've added 12 volt lighting, 110 electrical plugs powered by a generator, Big Buddy heater, a 3 burner camp stove and a stop light switch, connected to a red flashing light on the dash of Sally. That's to tell the driver to stop or not move; the people inside Bob are not ready to go or need you to stop. Why the generator and extra electrical plugs? I put an engine block heater, and a battery blanket on both Sally and the quad. At the end of a cold day fishing I want those engines to start. LOL About 3/4 the way in the build The cleats I welded to the c channel crossers of the track A wind break between Sally and Bob.
