Hi folks,
Like many of us, I have a quiver full of rods for the hard water.
I’ve come to really like the feel of a 28” medium action rod for perching but notice as I reel my lure in (no fish), the rod “hops” in lieu of being smooth. It’s like it has resistance at the tip for some reason.
Would anyone know the reason to this?
Is it the medium stiffness of the rod and this is normal. I’ve never noticed it before with other rods and definitely not on my wet noodle rods.

Are you using a braided or fusion line? Funny you should mention it. Yesterday I noticed the same thing...

Try using a med/lite rod or ultra lite.

Hi bugzy. Please don't be offended but the three things I would check first are ice on any of the guides not just the tip, a loop of line turned over the rod tip or if you are using a metal reel it could be ice interfering with the spool rotation.

I had this happen to me many times. It’ is usually caused by the line grabbing on something and then releasing. In my case the line was cutting into the side of my ice hole as the hole was drilled on an angle. Also had this happen when I was using a tip spring bobber as it iced up. IMHO I don’t believe it has anything to do with the rod type.
