Fishing on Nipissing on Wednesday while actively jigging my brother had a fish hit his second rod that was sitting on a bucket right beside him. It knocked his bucket over and his rod and reel almost went down the hole. He put his 1 rod down and grabbed the 1 with a fish on just in time. He got the fish near the top and knew it was a good 1. The fish was just below the ice and it took 1 more good run and swan right into his line that he had just put down and pulled his $175 rod and reel down the hole before he could move. At the same time his line broke on the rod with the fish on. The look on his face was priceless, just sitting there with a blank non believing stare with no tackle and only 1 rod and reel!! In previous years he has been successful hooking and retrieving someone else's rod that had gone down the hole and I told him not to worry just get your rod retrieval lure out and catch your own rod and reel, Within 10 minutes he snagged the line and started reeling up. We managed to get the rod and reel back and the fish was still on as well, by hand he pulled up the mess and landed the fish. It was a 4 1/2 pound pike that had caused all the commotion and we were able to revive it and release it to swim again!!
