looks like you can still get a snowmobile or atv through the poles. This won't effect many people on this board. We should be happy, this will keep blue and yellow huts off the access and save the ice. Exactly what I was thinking. Peter is lucky he got of the hut renting business just in time. We don't have to listen to him saying this was done to shut him down.

Thanks for the link , I see there was a comment made that thy think it's fantistic , what goes on at the end of Gilford Rd doesn't affect the commenter, operating off the beaten path on the 3rd line, it was kinda irresponsible but understandable and self serving . I also read a comment made about parking being out of control , there's nothing wrong with the parking situation everybody Parks the right way where they're supposed to park they use the allocated parking area if they got Deep Pockets other than that they use homeowners that want to rent out parking spots , ice fisherman are clean to as matter of fact . The new DOC that they're going to install at the end of 89 is a good attempt but it doesn't go far enough , should be a concrete ramp there , then the town can justify the paid parking that personally I'd rather see it free , just because .

Innsfil ice anglers deal with lake access changes www.simcoe.com Innisfil ice anglers deal with lake access changes NEWS 10:00 AM by Janis Ramsay Innisfil Journal Gilford Road end Town of Innisfil staff Meredith Goodwin (left) and Damien Dolan inspect the work done to the road ends of Gilford Road and Shore Acres Drive. - Innisfil Journal Shore Acres road end Town of Innisfil staff Meredith Goodwin (right) and Damien Dolan inspect the work done to the road end at Shore Acres Drive, which will have ATV access to Lake Simcoe this winter.

Oct. 18, 2018 - Janis Ramsay/Metroland 1 / 2 Even before Lake Simcoe freezes over, some Innisfil ice fishermen are reeling after changes were made to the town’s south-end lake access points. This summer, the town erected bollards to block out any snowmobile or all-terrain vehicle access onto the lake at Gilford Road. “We would call it an enhanced staging area and we believe it's fantastic,” Gilford resident Danny Crowder from Hot Box Huts said. “Machines will now have to use the Shore Acres boat launch, which will help keep the shore in better shape at Gilford Road for walkers. We like it.” But not everyone does. I think it's the worst possible thing they could do,” said Cooks Bay Fishing Board administrator Peter Sikora. "If it was up to me, it would be left the way it was, before they put up the gate." He would promote ice fishing by leaving public access open. The town’s capital project manager Meredith Goodwin said she was waiting to hear from anglers. “I had a good conversation with one ice fisherman and I know why they’re not happy,” Goodwin said. “(The lake) freezes faster at Gilford Road. It’s crazy, because it’s literally a road apart. I think that’s why they are concerned; they want to use Gilford.” Crowder added the lake freezes in the Cook's Bay area first and Gilford Road is the first public access point for people coming up from Toronto. This summer, the changes at Gilford Road include the road end being taken out, a gravel path put in, and cement pads poured for park benches. Bollards were also put up, blocking the entrance.

That's probably the last straw for me... doubtful I'll be going back to Gilford for fishing any more... not worth the hassle of trying to find a parking spot.

Ice fishing is getting very popular, couple that with one of the most popular ice fishing lakes on this side of earth...... Not really sure why having some sort of crowd control ie: walker + smaller machine access and larger vehicle + permanent hut access. Not really sure why there is a problem with beautifying an older area as it becomes more popular, why not enhance it? Anyway , you could probably take a hundred of us and ask what would be the best idea and possibly come up with a hundred answers. If you cast your personal feeling aside of what YOU think is bad or good and try and come up with a solution of what might work to take command and better the parking issue, flow issue, safety issue and on top of it all show some real effort for the citizens of Gilford to be a little happier with their mobs of ice fishermen/women.........I think more than one would agree on whats in place now. Maybe I'm wrong but I like it better and think it's smart. My mind can easily be changed I just haven't really read why it such a bad idea yet.

I remember those days Peter, buy some minnows at the shack go fish catch some nice fish & return un-used minnows to shack for a discount next time you buy minnows.
What a concept, make people feel good so they return for your business. Who could have imagined that, return customers F'n sweet. Now the town has arrived on scene with their hand out p*^$ing off many return customers & they end up taking their business elsewhere. As a former business operator in the outdoors industry, I am not ok with that. As I do plan on re-entering that business in the future & by the sound of things happening the last few years here, there may not be any reason to re-open if people can not get to the fish.
I support you 100% Peter, the cities have no right to inhibit or negatively impact some ones lively hood. Keep up the fight, there is a lot of support here in our hard water community, my entire family among them, as well as those who travel to get here. Good fishing to all & let there be peace in our world & on the ice. . .
Also, to those that were saying the new amendments were not to stop ice anglers from accessing the lake should read this quote from that article Peter
posted, it reads as follows:
" This summer, the town erected bollards to block out any snowmobile or all-terrain vehicle access onto the lake at Gilford Road."
If they are not trying to stop fisherman, why would they erect bollards to block out snowmobile & ATV access to the lake?
I am all for everyone using the lake, but those amendments look like they are more suited to non winter activities to me & only restrict access to winter users un less you are able to walk out onto the ice, which some people are not.
H.

Everybody has their own thoughts and ideas about the work done at the end of Gilford RD. Personally I think what they have done is very good. Not having huts and vehicles going out of Gilford Rd. at all will preserve the walking conditions. Anyone who drives out or pulls a hut has to Drive an extra .32 km. to get to 89!! Beast of both worlds. One access for driving and 1 right beside it is saved for walkers!! Very smart idea and implementation by the town!!
