Hello
New member who just got into fishing this summer. I am usually in Roches Point near the Governement Pier in a canoe/kayak. All summer I was catching (small) bass and perch, but lately all my spots dried up and I am not even getting a bite. The water in that mini bay is around 20 ft deep and very weedy, the shore, around 10 feet deep and pretty rocky...do I need to go deeper in the fall or just stick to the weeds and rocky shore and keep trying? Thanks!

If the bite has shut down i would guess the water temps are up and/or the weeds are not quite as healthy (oxygen).

It is a pretty normal thing that happens at most of my spots and many others I fish with. However don't count fall fully out yet all of a sudden they will come back and with a vengeance haha

Thanks..will definately look into fall bait. So another weekend with no luck. I moved to deeper water, about 25-30 feet...got a few nibbles, but could not land one. I was reading that Simcoe is very clear and the fish spook very easily. I recently put on new line... real cheap 10 pound for 4.99 at WalMart. Could that be effecting things? Is there a particular brand or gauge that work best for Simcoe?

There are huge schools of large perch in the north end of cook's bay. Go west of the Roches Point marker and get to 40 feet, you will catch perch!!!

I haven't been past the "green buoy" yet...I fish out of a kayak or canoe so it is a little scary with all the traffic, but now that the motor boats are being packed up for the winter, I may attempt on a calm day. I bought some Berkely frogs..can't wait to try this weekend!

I only know that it is 10 pound line...but after a bit of research, seems like fluro may be the way to go. Btw, thanks for all the advice!

I wouldn't recommend fluoro mainline, the cheap stuff is very wirey and will cause you huge headaches and the expensive stuff is...expensive. if you are hunting perch, 4lbs mono will be fine, get some trilene or a brand name, dont want to lose fish/lures because you wanted to save a couple bucks. Where is the government pier? I have an inflatable, thinking of heading up there to try my luck

Hello
Not sure what street the pier is on, it is right by the actual "point" from the water. I think the locals got it closed to fishing due to overcrowding..large groups were coming and apparently being disrespectful to the home owners..tresspassing etc. But you can access the water with a small craft from the public beach at the end of Osbourne street or Boyers road..although there is no beach at Boyers road and it is a bit swampy.

There's "help" which I'm all for but whether it matters to you or not, I for one do not appreciate handing out specific spots and broadcasting the info on a public forum......to me, it's not good for fisheries and it goes against the collective thinking of the essence of fishing which is searching, waiting, finding, celebrating and getting skunked. As I said before I'm all for helping but when it becomes that specific and post it on the world wide Web you run the risk in having many members and guests on this forum as well as their friends going to the same spot.

Hey Andre, is west of the marker in 40 feet the same as straight off Gilford Road in 20 Feet or straight off Kontiki Marina in 15 feet??? Being a SENIOR MEMBER you should monitor the board more closely, there are always people giving these type of descriptions. The last time I launched,Peter asked me to post reports, my reply was, I will try to contribute Peter, but there is always some a$$hole with something negative to say. Nice to see it took a couple days but you showed up. If you are so concerned with the fishery do you think it's a great idea to keep big stringers of perch like you have posted. By the way I couldn't care less how many fish you keep as long as you are within the law, just questioning your concerns.

The perch are following the huge schools of shiners that are also migrating into cooks bay. Spring and fall it happens. I hope I havent shared too much info

I hope I havent shared too much info Anyone know if there any shiners in the creeks we can net for bait yet? With perch they move so much I dont think it matters what info you are giving up really. Had a great time perchinn the bay last fall (right into late december). i remember we were the only boat on the water and after i posted my report (of an amazing day) the next day there were at least 20 boats out there, several people recognized me from the video report too! I didnt catch ANY fish that second day either they moved and i couldnt find em.

To answer your question, I do think it's the same thing and name calling is certainly not going to change my mind......My mind can be changed but not that way. I'm not really sure why you asked the stringer question but I apologize if my concerns didn't seem clear and concise. I'm all for fishing, harvesting your fair share and helping anyone new to fishing ,this board or an experienced angler that's on a rut. Personally when it comes to being specific, I take advantage of personal messages.Since your looking up my personal profile I suggest you do more than look at the pictures and read that I make a habit of sharing info and posting success and failures....i don't like to broadcast specifics is all. Take it easy a little bit....i'm sure you don't want it to look like the pot calling the kettle black.

I can see both sides...I was debating whether to mention that beach on Osbourne and the Boyers road access point...I am sure the locals will not like people coming around, but at the same time, who are they to stop people from coming to the water? I do have a few spots that seem better than others, would like to share, but at the same time, would not want those spots to be swamped with visitors. I heard that there are apps where people put the exact GPS point where they caught, so word will get out no matter what, plus if you come around, you will see where the boats park in the water so figuring out the hot spots isn't too tough....For the record, I am more interested in techniques/gear advice rather than spots as I do agree with Andre that the fun is in the hunt.
